my big bet on roblox

When I worked as an online community specialist, I managed to see roughly 200 servers a day. Many of these servers were Roblox servers filled with tens and thousands of users. My co-workers and colleagues mostly disregarded the Roblox communities as slop. The ecosystem had a unique set of rules and the user base was mostly children, creating huge barriers of understanding between the people using the platform and the folks who were watching it unfold.

Now, years later, I am convinced that Roblox is part of my career trajectory. I am in awe at the power of their game-making engine, and at the diversity of games that show up on the platform every day. I find there is so much room for growth here that it would be silly to not get familiar with Lua, Roblox Studio, Roblox Marketplace, and Blender.

The first angle I am interested in - selling assets and code modules to help hobby developers make games. Currently I am doing market research by spending time in Roblox Dev servers and listening for programming pain points. Secondly, I hope that by simply being familiar with Roblox mechanics, users, and culture, I will be well positioned to be a Roblox consultant for brands. This means being an active member of the Roblox community, and staying up to date with trends on the platform.

I am excited about this direction - it utilizes my creative spirit and my interest in technology. Also, with my previous experience working with content creators and online communities, this also feels like the most natural continuation of my duty as a citizen of the internet.
